You may think its no big deal to fold a baby blanket - anybody can do it. This may be true -  anyone can fold a baby blanket, but can you make it look beautiful, when you fold it? At Namely Newborns we fold hundreds of baby blankets every day which we send to our customers and their friends and we have found that there is a right way to fold a baby blanket if you want it to look beautiful and last longer; which , of course, we always do. A properly folded blanket makes a beautiful gift, even if it is not gift wrapped.

Many times a new mom will be in a hurry when she is doing the laundry and just wants to get a clean blanket in the drawer so she will hastily fold it in half . Maybe, if she is really rushed, she may even stuff it in the drawer without folding it at all. Sometimes, taking a little extra time, has its rewards. If you want that blanket to keep its shape and  look special,f  there is a correct way to fold the blanket .

Folding Instructions

1. Lay it flat,

2. Fold top third down

3. Fold bottom third up

4. Flip the blanket over, retaining the fold in thirds

5. Fold over the left hand side 1/3

6. Fold over the right hand side 1/3

7. Tie a ribbon or string

If the blanket is different on the reverse side, we recommend this extra step.Turn a corner out so that you can see the color on the other side in case you are trying to match a reversible blanket with baby's outfit .  Adding a ribbon or string will help keep the blanket from unfolding but we know that is time consuming and should only be done if you are sending a blanket to a friend or displaying the blanket on a shelf.

Here are four important reasons to take the time to fold your blanket.

  • Proper folding will keep the shape of the blanket longer
  • A folded blanket is easier to find in a drawer full of stuff
  • A beautifully folded blanket will make an attractive display on open shelves
  • You may want to recycle your blanket and send it to a friend; proper folding will make your old blanket look new again.
