Gray is the coolest color for this years baby nursery and layette. A back to neutral rage has taken on a new popularity as pink and blue color schemes get eclipsed by gray. Green and yellow have been passe for decades. But up to last year brown was the gender neutral choice. For over thirteen years every other baby blanket or accessory was brown with pink dots or brown with blue dots.

Today the new color combinations features gray. No longer does the new mom have to worry about how her baby blanket will look on the stroller or car seat. Most car seats and strollers are now gray and so are the baby blankets, clothing and stuffed toys.  Whether it is a cotton or a cashmere baby blanket; gray is almost always part of the color scheme. The girlie nurseries in shades of pink, may still be predominantly pink,  but they are now accented with gray. Gray is used in embroidery, trims and patterns.  Blue is still popular for baby boy, but now navy and blue layettes are paired with gray plush bunnies or charcoal security blankets.

Everything looks great with gray except brown. Black and gray, white and gray, turquoise and gray, orange and gray, lavender and gray, red and gray are all popular alternatives to pink or blue. If you are dead set on including pink or blue in your color palette , a healthy dose of gray makes it new and contemporary.

If you are one of the few that missed this new color  craze , it is not too late to catch up. You can always embroider your baby's name or three letter monogram on any product in gray. It is never too late to add a fresh coat of paint on the nursery wall in gray or add a chair rail in gray or giant letters with baby's name in gray.  This year , you cannot have too much gray.
